Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Beam is a terminal organizer for macOS that helps developers manage multiple terminal sessions, workspaces, and layouts. Beam is developed by NextUp Technologies ("we," "us," or "our").
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Beam desktop application, the getbeam.dev website, and any related services. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices and respecting your privacy.
2. Information We Collect
Information Collected by the Beam Desktop App
The Beam macOS application is designed with privacy in mind. Beam does not collect telemetry, does not track your usage, and does not phone home. All of your terminal data, workspaces, tabs, splits, and layouts remain entirely on your local machine.
The only network request the Beam app makes is for license validation when you activate Beam Pro. This request sends your license key and a machine-specific instance ID to our license validation server. No personal data beyond what is strictly necessary for license activation is transmitted.
Information Collected on the Website
When you visit getbeam.dev, we collect the following information through third-party services:
- Analytics data via Google Analytics (GA4): page views, session duration, device type, browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and approximate geographic location (city/country level, derived from IP address).
- Server logs via Firebase Hosting: our hosting provider (Google Firebase) may log your IP address and request metadata in standard server logs.
Information You Provide
- Payment information: If you subscribe to Beam Pro ($10/month), your payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment card details, email address, and billing address. We do not store your payment card data on our servers -- Stripe handles all payment card processing and storage.
- Newsletter signup: If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address via an embedded Google Forms form. Your email is stored in Google Sheets.
- Support inquiries: If you contact us at frank@nextuptechnologies.co, we receive your email address and the content of your message.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Website analytics: To understand how visitors interact with getbeam.dev, identify popular content, and improve the user experience. We use this data in aggregate and do not use it to identify individual users.
- Payment processing: To process Beam Pro subscriptions and manage billing through Stripe.
- License validation: To verify that Beam Pro license keys are valid and to enforce per-seat licensing.
- Newsletter: To send you product updates, tips, and announcements if you have opted in.
- Customer support: To respond to your questions and resolve issues.
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may process your data:
Google Analytics (GA4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous website usage statistics. Google Analytics uses cookies to track visitor interactions. The data collected is sent to and processed on Google's servers. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Stripe
We use Stripe for payment processing of Beam Pro subscriptions. When you make a purchase, your payment information is sent directly to Stripe and is subject to Stripe's privacy policy, available at stripe.com/privacy. We receive only a limited set of information from Stripe (such as the last four digits of your card, your email, and subscription status). We never have access to your full card number.
Firebase Hosting
The getbeam.dev website is hosted on Google Firebase. Firebase may collect IP addresses and request metadata in standard server logs. Firebase's terms and privacy information are available at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Google Cloud Functions
Our license validation API runs on Google Cloud Functions. When the Beam app validates a license, it sends only the license key and a machine instance ID. No personal information is collected or stored by this service beyond what is needed for license validation.

Newsletter signups are collected through an embedded Google Forms form. Submitted email addresses are stored in Google Sheets. Google's privacy policy applies to this data and is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
